DIVISIONS OF PLAY (Age as of December 31st of the year of play)

 

T-BALL (5U)

This level of play is for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. (*6 year olds with baseball experience are also welcome to register for Coach Pitch.)

  • Throwing, hitting, running and catching are the fundamental skills taught at this level. It is not expected that many catches will be made!
  • In T-ball, players strike a ball off a “T” that can be adjusted to accommodate different heights. There is no pitching or delivery of a ball in T-ball.
  • T-ball is played on an actual diamond lay out.
  • A safety ball is used and full safety equipment is mandatory.
  • Game score and team standings are not recorded.
  • The emphasis in T-ball is having fun and building confidence while helping players develop their basic athletic abilities.

COACH PITCH (7U)

This level of play is for 6 and 7 year old (*6 year olds with baseball experience).

  • In Coach Pitch, coaches pitch/toss the ball to the players. This teaches players how to hit a ball that is in motion.
  • A safety ball is used and full safety equipment is mandatory
  • Game score and team standings are not recorded.
  • Development of the fundamental skills remains a top priority while introducing more emphasis on player positioning on the field.

ROOKIEBALL (9U)

For players age 8 and 9.

  • In Rookieball a ‘pitching machine’ is used to deliver the ball. This introduces players to a pitched ball in a controlled and safe environment.
  • Fundamental skills continue to be developed.
  • Learning the rules of the game and requirements of all the positions are emphasized at this level.
  • Game score and team standings are not recorded.

ALL Rookieball teams will have the opportunity to compete in an inter-squad tournament as well as end-of-season Playoffs.

MOSQUITO (11U)

For players aged 10 and 11.

  • Mosquito is the first year that players actually pitch to each other (from 44ft)
  • The rules become more similar to that of a regulation baseball game with some exceptions such as no bunting, lead offs or infield fly rule.
  • All players present are included in the batting line-up and rotation.
  • Equal Play - For defensive play, all players must play two (2) innings on the infield during each game and a player may not sit two (2) innings until each player has sat one (1).

ALL Mosquito teams will have the opportunity to compete in an inter-squad tournament as well as end-of-season Playoffs.

PEEWEE (13U)

For players 12 and 13.

  • In Peewee, players pitch from a distance of 50 feet.
  • The rules of the game are expanded to include bunting, lead-offs. infield fly and dropped 3rd strike.
  • All players present are included in the batting line-up and rotation.
  • Equal Play - For defensive play, all players must play two (2) innings on the infield during each game and a player may not sit two (2) innings until each player has sat one (1).

ALL Peewee teams will have the opportunity to compete in an inter-squad tournament as well as end-of-season Playoffs.

BANTAM

For players aged 14 and 15.

*Our Oakville Bantam teams have historically participated in the Bantam loop in Burlington, with home games in Oakville. This provides for a larger loop and more competition. Please register with Baseball Oakville.
