The Oakville A’s Announce an Open Call for MEL Minor Midget and Midget Head Coaches
OAKVILLE, CANADA - May 20, 2015 - The Oakville A's, Baseball Oakville's official Rep baseball program in our community, today announced the deadline to submit an application to become the Head Coach of the Oakville A’s MEL Minor Midget or Midget team for the 2015/2016 baseball season is June 10, 2015.

Interviews of all MEL Head Coach applicants will take place between June 11 and June 20, 2015. The hiring will be completed by the Oakville A's Rep Committee, approved by Baseball Oakville’s Board of Directors and announced prior to July 1, 2015.
Head Coaches will be hired under a two-year agreement and will be held to specific metrics during the term of the agreement.
Oakville A's MEL Minor Midget (16U) Team - 2014/2015 Season
This year the MEL Minor Midget 16U A's team will be playing a 24-game MEL schedule, competing for the Provincial AAA title in August 2015, and participating in the following tournaments:
Vaughan Vikings Tournament (Vaughan, Ontario)
Pittsburgh Cap Classic (Monroe, Pennsylvania)
2015 Midget Elite league Showcase Tournament (Oakville-Brampton-Etobicoke, Ontario)
Buckeye Elite Classic (Columbus, Ohio)
Battle at the Falls (Niagara Falls, NY)
The Oakville A's MEL Minor Midget 16U team is off to fast start in its MEL regular season with a 4 and 1 record. A copy of the MEL 16U league standings and game schedule can be found at Midget Elite League 16U Standings.
Oakville’s MEL teams train at The Dugout, a baseball only 10,700 square foot indoor training facility solely available to Baseball Oakville members. The Dugout provides members with access to year round training in a professional setting that includes:
High quality turf - 4 inch thickness - in all training areas that was prior used at the Rogers Centre.
5,000 square feet (50' x 100') of open space - no pillars or support columns - for fielding and skills training, featuring 22’ plus high ceilings.
Three (3), 70’ x 11’ x 12’ hitting tunnels featuring portable pitching mounds and Jugs pitching machines.
One (1), 20’ x 40’ foot soft toss or tee work hitting area
Two private washrooms for players.

The 16U MEL team is led by Head Coach Tyler Moe. Coach Moe brings with him an extensive baseball background and experience. He is currently employed by the Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles as an Area Scout in Canada and resides in Oakville. In 2014 he was named as a member of the Top 100 Most Influential Canadians in Major League Baseball by Bob Elliott of the Canadian Baseball Network.
Head Coach Basic Qualifications
Baseball Oakville requires all potential head coach applicants to meet the following minimum requirements:
Three (3) years of Rep, High School or University baseball coaching experience with athletes 14 years of age or older.
2016 OBA Coach Certification Standards.
Deep knowledge of player talent at the 2000 or 1999 and 1998 cohorts.
Strong ability to recruit player talent.
Midget Elite League (MEL)
In June 2014 Baseball Ontario announced that four of its affiliated associations - Central Ontario Baseball Association, Hamilton District Baseball Association, Toronto Baseball Association and the York- Simcoe Baseball Association - had all signed an agreement to form a new Midget Elite League (MEL) commencing with the 2015 playing season. The MEL agreement allows Minor or Major Midget aged players within the four affiliated associations to try-out and play for any of the new MEL teams, without the need for a player release.
The Oakville Minor Baseball Association committed to fielding a MEL Minor Midget team starting the fall of 2014 and a MEL Midget team in the fall of 2015.
